A remarkable series of events landed me in the position of working back at the very place I was born in, Palmerston North, New Zealand.

Once settled in Palmerston North, I started gathering materials to start my autobiography on the life I had lived to get to where I stood that day.

To help me write my book, I started painting various scenes and memories from my childhood.

The more I got involved with painting scenes for my autobiography, the more I realized I could capture these feelings and ideas with paint rather than the words I had in my book.

I took a break from writing to pursue an extended dive into discovering the use of visual imagery to portray the intricate and peculiar feelings I wanted to express.

I would sit down in front of an empty canvas, ready to paint anything and everything. Ideas would flood my mind and yet overwhelm me with endless direction.

I called upon friends to give me ideas but even then they also would not know what to say.

One day, I simply asked a friend to “give me three words, any three words, and I will paint you something based on that”.

That is where the idea developed: I pick people to give me 3 words of their choice, I then paint them something based around their 3 words.

After weeks of painting for friends, I realized I could reach out to other people around the world who have had a significant influence in my art, life, and experiences that have shaped who I am today and tomorrow.

Music accentuates and shifts the atmosphere, and has been one of the most influential devices in my life.

Most of the people I have reached out for with this project have been musicians, where their music have played some pivotal part in my understanding of myself and the world.
