Space

August 2021, I decided to start a 10 month course on Astrophysics to introduce me into the physics how the universe works and what we as humans can do to understand it more.

Below is a collection of paintings leading up to my decision to pursue extra study into Astrophysics.

“I Accidentally Dropped My Hands in Some Gravitational Waves”

(Astronaut, Music, and Love)- Oct 2021

My latest painting reflecting some knowledge I gained from studying Astrophysics.

The astronaut (me) in the painting, cannot hear music of the universe but can feel the waves of gravity from the collision of two neutron stars. The collision looks amazing and feels like the most intense union of power. Part of the Astronaut is glad to witness such a brilliant display of energy. Part of the Astronaut also feels forlorn as they will never experience the same love, for they are not a neutron star.

This painting is a three words project collaboration with music artist A7S and his version the track “Your Love”

On 13th Feb 2024, this painting was turned into a mural by Darcelle in Palmerston North, in close proximity to the other murals.

“An Ecosystem”

(Jungle, Together, and Filter)- April 2022

Studying Astrophysics taught me how to filter out the things we can see to be able to grasp the nature of reality using the principles of physics. In this painting, I have in part filtered out what we can see as people to represent a formation of a “Jungle Egg”; a primordial state of an ecosystem. Falling into the egg, we have 8 animals travelling and about to co-exist together.

From the top going Clockwise: a Coral Snake, a Sabethes mosquito proboscis, the Anisoscelis alipes, Jaguar, Chameleon, Poison Dart Frog, Spangled contiga, and a Toucan beak.

“Inside the Ring”

(Wilderness, Silence, and Alone)- Mar 2021

One may feel quite alone inside the wilderness of the ring of Saturn.

I gave myself a very short deadline to do this; completed this painting in 1hr and 10min. Fastest turnover from the time I was given the three words, to be able to conceptualize a story to fit all three words, and to finish the painting.

“Strands of Each Lifetime”

(Static, Rebirth, and Reflections)- Feb 2021

This painting is for a friend of mine. I have taken samples of their eye color and used the same colors in the painting.

The Eye

Each strand of this eye represents a single lifetime lived. It is a vast collections of such eyes which would make up the galaxy splatter on the reverse side of this painting (next image).

Paisley

This is the reverse side of the eye painting.

This is my first time ‘quilling’; the art of hand rolling colored paper to create a bigger picture. Paisley is my favorite pattern, it is rich of history and has layers of story inside each fragment of the pattern.

“Fate”

(Linkage, Light, and Free)- Dec 2020
Location: France

It all starts from the beginning of everything. Different spokes of Space and Time expanding in the different ways our lives and the world could be.

Instead of thinking about how things could be different in a different universe, this painting shows what happens when you harness exactly that thought into the one we already exist in.

This one of the first paintings I have sent internationally. The beginning of my reaching outwards across oceans.

My Street Art about Space

Photons

The Tenth Bollard that I have painted in my Summer Street Project. This bollard about the stretching of photons as the universe expands space with time.

This is the second painting I have done directly inspired by the Astrophysics study I have been doing in my spare time.

Looking up into the Universe

This is my first street art I have done in my life. This bollard is about the presentation of “dots” on 3 different scales, all about how each scale is connected to each other within the universe, and within the community we find ourselves in.
